STILL, HERE. (installation)
by Therese Næss Diesen (2020)
STILL, HERE. is an interdisciplinary installation which consists of three spatial sound portaits placed in three different rooms with minimalistic scenography. The portaits are based on field recordings from the Disko bay in Greenland, an old school building in Norway and personal recordings of my father.
It is about going out into the world to realize why. To reach for a thought without knowing what lies behind. To grope, find and collect. To attempt to preserve something unpreservable.
When you do not know what tomorrow brings, it can be of help to have something to hold on to. When change seems scary, it can be a comfort to document it.
It is a research on grief and loss in a wider meaning; personal, local and global.
The installation was my masters project where I explored how sound can be the most central part of a project, how to present sound to an audience in a way that can open up a reflective space, how sound can displace and catch up the past in the present.
