I am currently a PhD student(2023-2027) at The Norwegian Film School at the University of Inland Norway as a part of the research project “A portal to new worlds of sound: Artistic research into 3D audio in extended reality (XR)” with project leader Trond Lossius.
The project is called "In between real and fictional spaces" and is an interdisciplinary research project where I work in between film sound, sound art and composition, in between reality and fiction, in between various immersive sound formats and in between cinemas and exhibition spaces.
In my work with sound to film, a large part of the creative work has been to create the sound of authentic real or fictional spaces.
In the hierarchy of sound in film, the spoken word always comes first, as a lot of the story often lies in this material. It is in the foreground.
Through recording ambience and foley on specific locations chosen based on how the spaces sound and respond, I have developed a deeper interest in what I can find in this material, in the background.
I am looking for ways to pull the backgrounds forward, and to illuminate the qualities in sound in connection to presence, space, place, time, materiality and memory.
I am searching for ways to create spaces to be in with sound, and for various spaces to work in.
