I am currently a PhD candidate(2023-2027) at The Norwegian Film School at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences as a part of the research project “A portal to new worlds of sound: Artistic research into 3D audio in extended reality (XR)” with project leader Trond Lossius.
My project is called "In between real and fictional spaces" and is an interdisciplinary research project. It will explore both narrative and non-narrative experiences in the landscape between film sound, sound arts, music, documentary and fiction.
In my work with sound in film, a large part of the creative work has been to create the sound of authentic real or fictional spaces.
In the hierarchy of sound in film, the spoken word always comes first, as a lot of the story often lies in this material. It is in the foreground.
Through recording ambience and foley on specific locations chosen based on how the spaces sound and respond, I have developed a deeper interest in what I can find in this material, in the background.
Maybe I am searching for ways to pull the backgrounds forward. Or to illuminate the qualities in sound when it is connected to space, place, time and memory.
In the project, I listen, record, create and present spaces with sound.
